2. The aim is to get the bottle over your own village stream

3. Bottles are taken in turn, in a best-of-three contest

4. A bottle may be carried, thrown or even kicked

5. The contest is between Hallaton and Medbourne

6. Anyone (and any number) can take part on either side

7. Players may join in at anytime and leave whenever they wish

8. There are no boundaries to play and no time limits

9. Tradition allows no weapons or kit that could cause injury

10. No horse, quad or other form of transport may be used

11. Custom permits removal of the injured but no delay of play

12. Preparations may include the use of a mild (or bitter) anaesthetic

The only control of play is the discipline that is exercised by the players themselves. Respect for these traditions has been passed down and honoured by Bottle Kickers over the centuries. The ancient game survives and thrives because it still requires a shared commitment to fair play.
